11 Soccer Wall Passing Drills For Beginners
Are you frustrated by your kid’s below-average first touch skills?
Wall passing is one of the basic drills that can greatly improve your kid’s passing and receiving skills. Here are 11 soccer wall passing drills you can include in your soccer practice session.
Wall passing encourages a player to pass or kick the ball against the wall and employs the first touch skill when receiving it. When passing the ball in different angles, speeds, and weights the ball rebounds differently which is going to challenge the player.

Wall Passing Tips
Follow these tips for successful wall passing training:
- Warmup and stretch before training then warm down afterward
- Take breaks between sets and keep hydrated
- Executing the correct technique is more important than completing the drill quickly
- Standing closer to the wall (3-5 feet) will increase the rate of passing
- Standing further from the wall (more than 5 feet) will decrease the rate of passing and it will be easier for beginners
- A hard and thick wall rebounds the ball better
- A soft soccer ball rebounds slower and it is easier for beginners
- Stand naturally and bend the knees
Before Proceeding…
Before we proceed I want to explain what is the Inside Foot Pass And Lace Pass.
The inside foot pass uses the inside part of the foot to pass the ball.

While the lace pass uses the top of the foot or the lace area to pass the ball.

The arrows in the photo below point to the parts of the foot to use in this drill.

Wall Passing Benefits
- Good training for your kids 1000 soccer touches.
- Helps develop ball mastery skills
- Strengthen the weaker foot so that your kid can pass and kick the ball with either right or left foot.
- Improve speed and reaction time
- Improve fitness and stamina
- It can be done indoors and outdoors
- No other equipment is required except for the ball and the wall
Setting Targets And Progression
The more your kid passes the ball the faster your kid’s first touch skills are developed.
Same as learning to play the piano, the more you practice the better you become.
That is why I recommend that you set a passing target your kid must achieve.
This is important in the long run for your kid’s progress. When you document your kid’s progress, you will be able to increase the target and complete it within a time limit.

Here is an example:
I am going to use the 11 wall passing drills above to reach the target of 550 touches – that is 50 touches for each of the 11 drills.
Of course, you can set your kid’s target according to his or her age and skill level
The touches are counted each time the ball touches the foot.

Conclusion
Wall passing is a great drill that will develop your kid’s first touch as well as passing accuracy, muscle strength in the legs, and stamina.
It will also improve your kid’s eye-feet coordination and muscle memory. Another great thing is that it does not require a lot of equipment to train with, just a ball and a wall.
Also, remember to focus more on the correct technique and control rather than trying to complete the drill.
Have fun and be safe.
