Why not just any gear?
Any cold-weather gear will surely keep your kid warm and comfortable when playing outside.
But here is the thing, heavy clothing will stop your kid from playing well, slow them down, and they will get tired easily
That is because they will be running and kicking most of the time.
When playing soccer your kid needs to wear gear that is lightweight, not bulky, but still warm.
So, the gear I described below will do just that, and you will find that most of the gear is made of similar materials.
1. Beanie

We all know what a beanie is, or sometimes called a knitted cap by some in Canada and the US. It is a warm headgear made of wool, cotton, and other felt materials.
Its function is to keep your kid’s head warm and protect against cold and wind.
Depending on the design, a beanie can be pulled down to cover the ears and the nape without impairing the wearer’s listening and visual abilities.
2. Neck gaiter

Neck gaiter or snood protects the neck against the cold and can be pulled up to cover the nose as well.
They are a popular accessory among pro soccer players and other athletes who wear them during training
They are quite versatile gear that can be used for a variety of purposes ranging from head scarfs to ear warmers.
Some neck gaiters have a drawstring closure so that it stays secure when covering the nose.
3. Field glove
Field gloves are worn by players who played in the outfield and should not be confused with goalkeeper gloves.
They are not bulky like goalie gloves and their main purpose is to keep the player’s hands warm.
Just make sure that the wrist cuff is elastic so that it does not allow the cold to get in your kid’s hands
4. Goalkeeper gloves
Goalkeeper gloves help protect the hands from injuries but because they are made of thick foam and latex they can also keep the hands warm.
However, only soccer goalkeepers can wear it, not because it is not allowed, but because it is a bit oversized and clumsy.
Some gloves have mesh materials that are designed for playing in summer so do not buy this type of goalie gloves.
5. Thermal underwear
Devops Boys and Girls Thermal Underwear
Thermal underwear, aka long johns, is baselayer clothing that keeps the entire body warm because it hugs the body.
Polyester thermal underwear is recommended for soccer players because they don’t keep moisture, is lightweight, and retains body heat.
On the other hand, merino wool provides the best warmth but it also retains moisture which we don’t want.
Also, choose long pants and long sleeve thermal underwear so that it covers your kid’s legs and arms as well.
The best thermal wear for soccer is usually made of polyester and spandex.
6. Socks
Soccer socks protect the lower legs from scratches and hold the shin guard in place but they also keep the legs warm.
They provide arch and compression around the ankle and cushioned the foot.
Good socks are made of materials such as polyester, spandex, nylon, and rubber.
7. Tracksuit

The tracksuit is 2-piece clothing consisting of a jacket and long pants and is outerwear.
Athletes wear it over their team uniform when warming up, while waiting for their turn to play, and warming down after playing.
During warm-up, the tracksuit actually speeds up the process because they keep the heat inside and the muscles get warmer faster.
Actually, they are also called sweatshirts and sweatpants.
But nowadays they are not only worn by athletes but also as a fashion by musicians.
Tracksuits are made of materials that keep the player warm when not playing.
Highly recommended are tricot tracksuits because they are made of nylon and spandex or polyester and spandex.

8. Outdoor blanket
Don’t let yourself and your kid shiver from the cold wind during training.
Outdoor blankets are a useful item for parents and players who watch soccer training from the sidelines.
They are weatherproof, waterproof, and can be used for a variety of outdoor activities like camping and traveling.
It can be spread on the grass or bench to sit on or wrapped around the body for warmth.
They also come in a lot of sizes that can fit one person or more and are very portable.
Typically all good outdoor blankets are made from some of these materials:
